The Town of Mount Olive will begin Household Garbage and Recyclable Pick-up on Thursday, July 1, 2021 in addition to Yard Waste Pick-Up. You household garbage pick-up will coincide with your current yard waste pick-up day as follows:
Household Garbage & Yard Waste East Side
Monday - South East - Section 3 on Trash Pick-Up Map
Tuesday - North East - Section 2 on Trash Pick-Up Map
Recyclables will be every other Wednesday beginning on July 7, 2021.
Household Garbage & Yard Waste West Side
Thursday - North West - Section 1 on Trash Pick-Up Map
Friday - South West - Section 4 on Trash Pick-Up Map
Recyclables will be every other Wednesday beginning on July 14, 2021.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
House Bill 1160, which the General Assembly enacted in July 1999, requires those municipalities, animal operations, industries and others who operate waste handling systems issue news releases when a waste spill of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters.
In accordance with that regulation, the following news release has been prepared and issued to the media in Wayne County, NC.
The Town of Mount Olive had a discharge of untreated sewer from inside the Town’s wastewater treatment plant at 408 Wilkins Farm Road. The spill was discovered on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 4:10 P.M. and as of Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 6:30 P.M. had stopped. A total of 8,250 gallons has been spilled.
The untreated waste entered the headwaters of the North East Cape Fear River. The spill occurred as a result of 2.0 inches of rainfall over a thirty-minute period in our area.
This notice was required by North Carolina General Statutes Article 21 Chapter 143.215C. For more information, contact Town Manager Jammie Royall at (919) 658-9539.

The Town of Mount Olive has been conducting smoke test on its sewer collection lines. We have found buildings that do not have a sewer line vent to daylight (sewer vent located on the roof of your house) When smoke testing is done this can cause pressure to buildup in the sewer lines. Water can sometimes back out of the lines into the building. Smoke can also escape from the lines into the building. Please notify the town if you know of any sewer plumbing issues. The Town of Mount Olive will continue some testing on Tuesdays and Wednesdays indefinitely.

Starting on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 we will begin smoke testing our sewer lines every Tuesday and Wednesday indefinitely. The purpose of this testing is to locate any breaks or holes in the lines that cause inflow and infiltration into our sewer system.
