Public Notice of Smoke Testing, Thursday, January 8, 2026 on Witherington Street at 1:00 P.M. and Old Seven Springs Road at 3:00 P.M.
Staff will introduce a non-toxic, non-staining, odorless (or slight odor) white smoke into manholes. The smoke is not harmful to people, pets, or plants. You may see smoke coming from:
- Manhole lids in the street
- Vent pipes on your rooftop (this is normal)
- The ground where breaks in the sewer line exist
- If smoke enters: It indicates a potential problem (e.g., inadequate vents, dry traps, or damaged pipes) that could allow dangerous sewer gases into your home. Open windows for ventilation, leave the building, and immediately notify a member of the field crew working in the area or call the contact Sherry Davis at 919-658--9539 Ext. 106.
